Computer vision powers software for gold mining exploration
In partnership with mining company Barrick Gold and geospatial mapping company Geosoft, a team of researchers at the University of Western Australia (UWA) have applied computer vision methods to analysis of geophysical datasets. The methods include identification of texture discontinuities and generation of a skeleton map of the discontinuity structure of a geologic region. More information is available in an article in the Australian Journal of Mining.
